NORRIS M. GADDIS Age 88, died on August 30, 2003 from cancer, in his home at Mary's Woods, Lake Oswego, OR. He is survived by loving family including his two sons, Michael of San Rafael, and Philip of Portland, OR; grandchildren Aaron Gaddis of Warwick, NY, Jocelyn Gaddis of Gulf Breeze, FL, Ryder Gaddis of Santa Rosa, CA, and Lorna Gaddis currently studying in New York, NY; and great grandchildren, Alexandra Olener of Woodacre, CA, and Gabriel Williams of Gulf Breeze, FL. Born in Liscom, Iowa In 1915, he married the late Iris Grove in 1939. Piedmont resident since 1955 following 7 years of teaching architecture at the University of Oregon, he established and ran an influential architectural practice near Lake Merritt until retirement in 1992. His firm's designs include, among other projects, numerous Bay Area churches, homes for the elderly, homes, apartment buildings, businesses, and the award-winning original design for Oakland's Knowland Park Zoo. He was active in Oakland Rotary, and, until recently, an avid tennis player. He will be remembered fondly for guidance he gave hundreds of aspiring architects both as employer or professor; and by friends, associates and family for his humanity and kindness, his humility, and his exemplary, principled life. Friends are invited to a memorial service and reception at the Montclair United Methodist Church, 2162 Mountain Blvd., Oakland, October 4 at 10:30 AM.
