Steve Dain

DR. STEVE DAIN, MA, DC, ND 1939 - 2007 Steve passed away peacefully on October 10, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Robyn, and stepdaughters Donna Weber of Fremont and Suzanne Robbins of Eugene, Oregon. He is also survived by his brother Douglas Richards of Brentwood, his sister Janis Richards of Dublin, 3 nephews and 1 niece. Steven was born July 9, 1939 in Oakland, CA, son of the late Frank and Doris Richards. He graduated from Oakland Tech High School in 1957. He continued his education and received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1961. He received his Masters Degree in Physical Education and Child Development from Berkeley in 1963. Steve's teaching career began at Arroyo High School, and continued at Mission, Kennedy, and Emeryville High Schools, where he had the greatest impact of his teaching career. Through his caring attitude, he developed close bonds with his students. His open-door policy helped to provide guidance and success for students who were previously struggling. His love of anatomy and the sciences led him on a new path in 1985. He entered Life Chiropractic College West, graduating in 1988 with his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree. Upon graduation, he opened a small practice in Union City. This enabled him to do what he loves most, helping, healing and guiding all those who came in contact with him. It wasn't long before he was also back teaching at Life Chiropractic College West and Ohlone College. His continuing love of learning led him to complete a Doctor of Naturopathy Degree in 2006. His dynamic personality and vast knowledge had students, friends, family and others seeking his guidance on various subjects. His acceptance of everyone was just one of his exceptional qualities. Students, patients, family, and friends found Steve easily approachable about ANY subject. His healing hands, love and caring has touched thousands of lives over the years. Many throughout the years have expressed their inspiration, love, gratitude and devotion to him. He was loved by all. Throughout all his endeavors, his love of animals never diminished. His eclectic collection has included a rabbit, a raccoon, an iguana, rats, pot-bellied pigs, cats, fish, birds, and a variety of dogs ranging from a Fox Terrier to Great Danes. This earned him the nickname of "Dr. Doolittle", of which he was proud. Steve was originally diagnosed in 2001 with breast cancer. It returned in 2004 and then again in August of 2007. He fought a vigilant fight right up to the end. He continued to live every day to the fullest and enjoyed each and every moment. Steve was truly one of a kind. His love, caring and compassion will be missed by all. Services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Eden United Church of Christ, 21455 Birch Street, Hayward at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dr. Steve Dain Scholarship Fund in care of Life Chiropractic College West, 25001 Industrial Blvd., Hayward, CA or to the Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation of Fremont.
