LACY, David Francis
October 23, 1956 - June 23, 2014
The family of David Francis Lacy, son, husband, and father, announce with sadness his peaceful surrender to brain cancer at home on June 23 at the age of 57 years.
David will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Laurie, and their precious children, Ryan, Sean, David, Brendan and Leanne; by his mother, Helen; and by his brothers and sisters, James, Patricia (Bob), twin Kit (Michael), Donald (Julia), and Margaret (Anthony). David will also be forever remembered by his numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Born in Invermere, BC, David grew up in Chemainus, BC, on Vancouver Island, where he graduated high school (Cowichan Secondary). David moved to Edmonton and worked for 29 years at Celanese Inc. until the plant closed, whereupon he worked at Transalta for the past seven years as an outage scheduler. David loved flying gliders in his single days, and willingly gave this up for complete dedication to family life, always highly involved with the activities of the five children, the parish, and the home education community. Many thanks to the palliative home care team; special thanks to Lynn, David's wonderful care aide in his final months.
A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street NW, Edmonton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton, with Fr. Andrew Bogdanowicz celebrating.
Memorial donations in memory of David may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Just received the sad news about David from my mother by way of the Ladysmith-Chemainus Chronicle. David and I were good friends in high school in Chemainus and graduated from Cowichan Senior Secondary School together (Class of 1975!). David had a great sense of humour and I think back to those great times we had together at the old Lacy home on Chemainus Road. My sincere condolences on your loss - now you can fly and be free at last, David!

Dear Lacy Family
I did not know David as an adult, but our families were connected through our youth and being friends with Pat meant that I was aware of how your lives were progressing through the years. So sorry that the last couple of years have been so difficult, but knowing your connection to your faith and the support you have received from your community, I am sure you will be supported through this difficult time.
My thoughts and prayers and those of my family (the van den Bergs) are with you at this time.

David was such a good-spirited, inspirational person. He certainly will be missed by everyone who knew him. We really appreciated all his help and good humor when the boys were involved in scholastic chess events. He obviously was a great dad and a great guy.

I worked with Dave at Celanese for many years. He was full of life and his laughter could fill many rooms. Myself, Dave with his '79 Volare and 2 other C.A. boys went up to Sunshine in the depths of winter circa 1982. Coming home was -35 down Hwy2. That was my 1st ski trip and it was memorable. Dave made it more fun. Rest in peace Dave, you were a hard worker, smart and a great family man. Condolences to his family.

Dear Laurie and family,

Please accept my most sincere condolences and know that my heart goes out to you all.

I will always remember when Jim asked me to meet both of you and the kids for the first time, I was nervous but as soon as we arrived, David came toward me with open arms and his usual beautiful smile (pushed playfully Jim out of the way), gave me a big hug and welcome me to his home, I knew at that moment that I was meeting a very special man.

I will always have precious memories of David and he will be greatly missed.

I keep you all in my prayers and in my thoughts.

Love and hugs, Nicole
