Wayne SPENCER

SPENCER, Wayne Gerald On Friday, December 12, Wayne Spencer, a true native son of Edmonton, passed away at the ripe young age of 87. Wayne was predeceased by his first wife Agnes (in 1986) and his brothers Milton and Donald. Wayne is lovingly remembered by his wife Jessie and their extended family: Susan & Alan Lanyon, Valerie Spencer Bright, Donald & Gaye Oxford, Susan & Earl Harris; grandchildren: Spencer Lanyon, Scott & Miriam, Brent & Andrea, Megan & Todd, Kelly & James, Lauren and Craig; great-grandchildren Salinger & Henry; nieces Linda Windel and Dorothy Spencer. Wayne was a passionate Edmontonian & Albertan who loved to extole the virtues of his beautiful city & province. He was an avid Edmonton sports fan, golfer and member of the Edmonton Golf and Country Club. Wayne was a proud veteran of WWII. Enlisting as a private in 1939 with the Engineers, he was among the first Canadians to graduate from Sandhurst Military College in England. With his beloved regiment, the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) his armoured tank regiment broke through the Gothic Line in Italy and participated in the liberation of Holland. Discharged in 1945 with the rank of Captain, he maintained a life long associaton with the "Straths" and the Royal Canadian legion. Many Edmontonians will remember him as the owner and operator of "Val's Donuts". His family invites you to join them in celebrating his life at the Edmonton Golf and Country Club Tuesday, December 16 at 3pm.
