Wolfgang Janus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 6, 2008.
JANUS, Wolfgang (Wolfie) Karl Born July 1, 1955 in Unna, Germany, passed peacefully away October 25, 2008 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Victoria, BC. Young Wolfie moved with his family to Edmonton, Alberta in May of 1958 and spent his childhood growing up in the beautiful Cloverdale river valley (pure adventure) where he met his first friend, Stanley Wilkerson. As boys they explored Mill Creek, the river, Camel Humps, Grassy, the toboggan hill, the Dump, the dog pound, Mr. Russell's store and, in time, every back alley in Cloverdale. He attended Bennett school across the street and later Fulton Place at the top of the hill. Moving to Richmond Park (Ritchie) in 1965 he was soon clearing the snow from the sidewalks of most of 71st Avenue residents in the winter and helping grow Mr. Gratzfeld's Eavestrough business in the summer and fall. Wolfie continued to make many friends when he moved to Rehoboth in the 70's and resided there until the family pulled up roots and all moved to Victoria, BC taking Wolfie with them. Always a lover of animals, this suited Wolfie just fine as he worked and volunteered at various farms and ranches on the Saanich peninsula. Wolfie travelled on foot whenever possible and could be seen walking all around the countryside most days after he learned to walk up until the last month of his life. His ready smile and soft voice will be much missed by his friends and family and not at all least by the many horses, dogs and cats he befriended over his time on this earth. Predeceased by his mother Maria in 1987, Wolfie is survived by his father Karl, his brothers Ralf (Cindy), Martin (Bernie) and Rob (Kathy) and nieces Holly and Sophie and nephews Jack and Ethan. The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate folks at his home on Central Saanich and the Good People at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit who made his last days rich, peaceful and relaxing. The family will hold a quiet celebration of his life at the home of his father in Saanichton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to make a donation may send it to the local SPCA - without a doubt Wolfie's choice of charity.
