John SOWINSKI Obituary
On September 16, 2012, John Sowinski of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully at the age of 90.
John will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving companion, Eve Pipella; children, David (Christine), Ruby and John Jr.; grandchildren, Derek (Janna), Scott, Katie, and Leah; and sisters, Pat McIntyre and Mary Anne (Ted) Maciborski. John will also be missed by Eve's family, his many relatives and friends. John was predeceased by wife, Rose; parents, Peter and Mary; sisters, Gerry, Janet and Carol; and brother, Mike. John was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada with his parents and little sister, Gerry in 1929. His family homesteaded in Alder Flats. At an early age, John left home to start a series of jobs as a lumber jack, the army, CESSCO and then his own oilfield services business where he was greatly respected. He was an avid sports fan, both of professional teams, as well as his own family. One of his proudest moments was when the Edmonton Tigers won the Canadian Amateur Baseball Championship while he was president of the club in 1974.
A Celebration of John's Life will take place Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 - 111 Avenue, Edmonton. Interment will take place in South Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or other tributes, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & NWT, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1.

I am truly sorry for loss David,Ruby,and John...I have known your dad most of my life and he has always treated me with great kindness . I have been on many adventures with your dad one of my first is getting to known his horse when I was young. He took us to the lake and to many of David's football,baseball,and hockey games. John always remembered me when I came to visit . I will truly miss him.

I was so saddened to hear about john's passing! He will be sadly missed by all! He was a great man and I have had the pleasure in knowing him at the strathcona alzeimhers care centre! As well as had the pleasure in meeting and getting to know his wonderful family! RIP John xo

John will be very missed by all of us from the Alzheimer's unit and by me . To him, I was quite often referred to as Chris. I was so saddened to hear he had passed away while I was on vacation.
He was a lovely and well respected man. My thoughts and prayers to all of his family.
