Lisa Adele Ruoff Birzer, 58, died March 10, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah after battling cancer for a couple of months.
Lisa was born in Norfolk, Neb., on Feb. 10, 1961, to Werner Ruoff and Geraldine Ruth Hartwig Mellor (Carl). She was the second-oldest sibling of four, including Renae Conner (Bob), Kurt Ruoff (Tracy) and Ingrid Morgan. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents,Gottlieb and Luise Ruoff of Germany, maternal grandparents Arthur and Adele Hartwig of Norfolk, and father Werner Ruoff. She married Mitchell Eugene Birzer on Aug. 28, 1982. They were married for 36 years. They had one child: Danielle Makayla Birzer.
Lisa was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of Norfolk. She attended Christ Lutheran Parochial School. She graduated with honors from the Class of 1979 of Norfolk High School. She went on to graduate from Lincoln School of Commerce in accounting in 1981. She additionally completed her BS degree in Economics from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va., with Summa Cume Laude honors in 1993. She worked for numerous organizations over the years. However, her greatest accomplishment was to home school her daughter through 18 years of school. After completing this honored task, she worked for Savannah Technical College as a math tutor.
Lisa was a born-again Christian and most recently attended Rincon First Baptist Church. Lisa supported numerous Christian organizations in the Rincon area such as GLOW and Tea Time with God. As a member of Abingdon Bible Church in Abingdon, Va., Lisa served in MOPS, VBS, AWANA, and GRACEducators. She is survived by her husband, daughter, brother, two sisters, one niece and two nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, March 22, 2019, at Rincon First Baptist Church at 7 p.m. An additional Celebration of Life service is set Friday, April 26, 2019, at Abingdon Bible Church in Abingdon, Va. at 7 p.m.
