RINCON - Myrtle Helen Murray Rooker, 96, of Rincon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at her son's residence in Fairfax, S.C., under hospice care with her loving family surrounding her.
She was born June 22, 1924, in Screven County to the late Lawrence and Maxie Austin Murray. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Pentecostal Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Rooker; her daughter, Judy Knowles; her sisters, Mary Lee and Elma Oliver; and her brother, Herman Murray.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Mel Turner of Rincon; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Imajean Rooker of Fairfax, S.C., Johnny and Tammie Rooker of Rincon and Joseph Rooker of Guyton; her sister, Edell Bassett of Dover; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and seveal nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at New Bethel Pentecostal Church in Effingham County,. Brother Darrel Childress and Sister Selah Childress officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mike Herndon, Jeff Rooker, Mark Rooker, Roger Rooker, Larry Rooker and Lee Moone were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included Mel Turner, Donnie Griffin, David Oaks and Scotty Howell.
Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
