ANGIER, N.C. - Philip Michael Campbell, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at his home.
Phil was born in Des Moines, Iowa, then grew up in LaMirada, California. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served two tours in Vietnam, was a member of the honor guard, then flew as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol.
Phil was a man of faith and attended Anthem Church in Angier. He had a love of many hobbies, including airplanes, motorcycles, camping and fast cars.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a doting grandfather and a loyal friend. He led his life with honor, firm in his convictions, but always with love and grace.
Phil is survived by his wife, partner, confidant and love of his life, Dianne. He leaves two children, Richard Campbell (Theresa) of Savannah and Shannon House (William) of Willow Spring, N.C. Seven grandchildren had the great good fortune to call him theirs - John Edwards, Michael Edwards, Everett House, Emily House, Matthew House, Ian House and Nicky House (Papa's constant sidekick). He also leaves two sisters, Karen Kampen (Steve) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Sandra Campbell of California. He will be sorely missed by his ever-present companion, Luna.
A memorial service and celebration of Phil's life will be graveside at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at 11 a.m. Masks will be provided for those who may need one.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Anthem Church of Angier, or Freedom Service Dogs of America.
