Shirley Pevey Bevill, 86, passed away on Jan. 1, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Shirley, the epitome of a gracious Southern lady, was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Guyton, Georgia. She graduated from Effingham Academy High School in Springfield. She married Lovett Bevill of Kildare in 1953 and they were married for 41 years.
For 32 years, Shirley was employed by Savannah Foods and Industries Dixie Crystal Sugar in the finance department. After retirement, she lived in Tybee Island. In 1998, she moved to Statesboro, where she was an active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Colonist and also volunteered with the American Red Cross for 10 years. In 2012, Shirley moved to Jacksonville Beach, Fla.,to be closer to her son and family. She was a loyal Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia football fan!
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lovett Bevill Sr.; her parents, Ashley and Lucille Pevey; a sister, Dorothy Nell Pevey Lewis; two brothers, Rodney Ashley Pevey and Alfred Staley Pevey.
Shirley is survived her sister, Jerry Anne Pevey Singletary (Tom), Statesboro; by two sister-in-laws, Eva Belle Pevey Springfield; Margie Pevey, Statesboro; and a son, Thomas Lovett Bevill Jr. (Melanie), Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Also surviving are Shirley's beloved grandchildren; Richard Hogle (Andrea), Dallas, Texas; Garrett Bevill, Dallas, Texas; Katharine Marsh (Ryan), Jacksonville, Fla.; and Madison Bevill, Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Additionally, Shirley was blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren; Kennedy, Brody and Berkley Hogle and newborn great-grandson, Channing Marsh.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Cason at Mizpah United Methodist Church, 122 Mizpah Rd., Clyo (date and Time to be determined later). Remembrances may be made to Mizpah UMC, Statesboro First UMC, or the Guyton Christian Church.
