GUYTON - Walter William Messex, 63 passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at his home.
Mr. Messex was born in Savannah on March 3, 1957, to the late Rufus Messex and Shirley Davis Barnes. He was a 1976 graduate of Tompkins High School and a long-time resident of Bloomingdale and Guyton. Mr. Walter retired from Overhead Door of Savannah as a commercial installer with more than 31 years of service.
He loved to fish, hunt and grow vegetables, and passed on his skill to many of the youth in his neighborhood.
Mr. Walter was a mentor to many, enjoyed volunteering at Fostering Bulloch and was a youth league baseball coach for many years. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, where served on the building and grounds committee, assisted with the Royal Ambassadors and was assistant teacher of the youth Sunday School class.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Messex was preceded in death by his stepfather, Henry K. Barnes.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sandra Crowe Messex of Guyton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Cody and Baylee Messex of Warthen, and Rico of Pooler; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rudy and Pam Messex of Hope Mills, N.C., and Lee and Andrea Messex of Grovetown; two sisters, Wanda Inglett of Waynesboro and Candy Adams of Hephzibah; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Sand Hill Cemetery with Pastor David Feldkamp officiating and Pastor Kenny Harrelson assisting.
