GUYTON -William Duke Fort, 73, died on May 29, 2020, at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1946, in Guyton and lived in Guyton all of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Effingham County High School and served in the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps.
He spent his career as a meat cutter in several grocery stores in Effingham County and enjoyed spending his retirement years in his woodworking shop.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Toole Fort, of Guyton; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Eric McCallie, of Guyton; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crisa Fort, of Guyton; and three grandsons, Ethan Chavis, Baylor McCallie and Cullen McCallie.
A graveside service was conducted May 31, 2020, at Guyton Cemetery.
Riggs Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
