Ann Lucas Obituary

Ann Lucas passed away February 6, 2012, at University of Utah Medical Center, at age 55 due to a subdural hematoma, which required surgery. She was put on life support, but after three days without signs of improvement, her family made the difficult decision to discontinue life support and donate her organs on the 6th.
Ann was born on Oct. 12, 1956, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Buss and Dorothy Stepp, who encouraged her to follow her dreams. One dream was to become a published author, which she achieved in 2010 with her novel "Life-Dance". She also wrote fan fiction for the television show "La Femme Nikita". When the "powers that be" cancelled the show, Ann joined with other fans and campaigned very hard to get them to tie up loose ends with a final season, which they did.
Ann was also a freelance correspondent for the "Elko Independent" newspaper and had a recurring column called "Shaking the Tree", as well as writing articles for "Elko Daily Free Press", and liked writing short stories just for the practice.
Ann was a passionate animal advocate. She rescued and fostered many cats, two dogs and even a pigeon. She loved "Animal House Shelter and Sanctuary" near Elko, and donations to them in her honor, would be greatly welcomed.
Ann was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and grew up in Elko, Nevada, graduated from Elko High School, then worked for many years as a telephone operator for C.P. National. She lived for over 15 years in Keizer, Oregon, where she worked for the "State of Oregon" in Salem.
She returned to Elko, getting an apartment in Spring Creek in the summer of 2001, to be nearer to her ailing Father, Buss, who passed away from lung cancer in 2002. Her Mother, Dorothy, had battled cancer and passed away in 1999. Ann was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Desiree, and her stepbrother, Jerry Tate. She is survived by her brother, James M. Stepp and sister, Terry Stepp, both of Elko, her niece, Sonja Shelledy Laws, of Clinton, Utah, nephew, Eric Villadsen, of Layton, Utah and Brother in Law Viggo Villadsen, also of Clinton, Utah. Ann was a great aunt, and recently became a great-great aunt to little Cash. She also had extensive "adopted family" members whom she welcomed into her home any time they came through.
In 2005, Ann moved back to the house which her mother and father had made into their "family home" in Elko. Her brother, James, had purchased the home after Buss passed, and it made perfect sense for her to live in the house where she was raised. She found the remnants of her mother's garden, brought it back to life, and discovered a passion for gardening. Her final employment was with "Kimberly Nursery" in Elko. She would arrive long before the rest of the world woke up, water the plants and trees, rescue little critters in peril and take glorious photographs of Elko's sunrises. She called it her Zen job.
Ann LOVED: her family and friends, animals, all genres of music, reading and writing, the Ruby Mountains and nature. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, best friend and champion of all underdogs. The world has lost a bright ray of Sunshine.

How can it be 10 years already? It STILL feels like just yesterday Ann left us. Still miss you terribly,Ann. Well,I imagine God's training you to take over when He decides to retire. Relax-you'll be great at it. And don't worry about me-I'm fine-but you already know that, don't you. I'll see you when that time comes.

After all this time I still miss Ann. She lived her life on her own terms, and always welcomed a challenge. After her passing, her eyes gave a young lady a chance to see-That's typical Ann, giving to others even after her death.

Cyanara Cynara. My friend from so many years ago. We always managed to chat through email or send jokes just enough to keep in touch. We shared a passion for La Femme Nikita and Highlander. I am saddened to hear of Ann's death in such a sudden and terrible way. I am giving her a tribute by getting that book she wrote. She always said she based one of her characters after me. I will see her again in Heaven someday.

Somehow I was urged to go past your home in Keizer OR last week. Seemed like I could smell the fragrant lavender that you grew and shared with me. Then this news. Were you giving me a message? Kindness and generosity comes to mind and loving friendship..Calla Lilly Salem OR

Ann Stepp the girl across the street, the girl I went to school with and grew up with as a teenager. Ann was a big music fan, first set of drums I bought I think she thought I bought them for her, she had them out of the box and putting them together before I could start reading the instructions. The band we both favored was the Monkee's and I think she had every album they released and knew every word on the songs and would encourage you to sing along. Ann was very outgoing and loved the summer time and was ready to do something outside specially visiting the neighborhood friends. Terry and James sorry for the lost of Ann, she will be in our hearts and our minds just as it was like yesterday.

Gawd DWS! I know that I can't be selfish by being angry that you are gone but man I really want to! Ann was SO many things to SO many people. To me, she was big sister, mentor, teacher, partner-in-crime and above all else she was one of my life-long best friends. I wish, with every fiber of my being that things could be different.

I know that Ann is with the Lord. I was at Ann's side while she was passing. It took her some time to let go. I told James she was asking as many questions that her worldly mind had in it. She was probably debating with Angels. She was so smart about so many things. Wise to just as much as she was smart. She was my only aunt. I adored her and I know she adored me. We got along always. She called me her little sunflower. I have some great memories of her that have taken 46 years to get and I will cherish them all.

James, I don't know what to say..I am so so sorry!! I am so thankful that you got to be there with her and to hold onto her hand as she passed away. Ann definitely was a Ray of Sunshine, she had such a free spirit and great attitude always looking on the bright side of things. We spend so much time together back in the seventies, I think my parents actually forgot they had a third daughter, I have such wonderful memories of Ann and I listening to music and dancing around the garage and in her bedroom. Staying up late every weekend listening to the top 40 count down and getting so excited when our favorite song hit number one. I always tried so hard to be able to write stories like she could and to be able to draw and doodle, but could never do it. Ann had so many talents and such a big heart!! This world has lost a wonderful person, but, God has gotten his ANGLE back.

Ann was such a happy person to be around. Always had a great smile. We had many fun days and nights working together as telephone operators. Sincere condolence to Ann's family, she will truly be missed by all.
