I miss Ruby everyday. Everywhere I look at home reminds me of her as many items were bought from her, most with a story. I went in to buy one retablo in the mid 90s. I became hooked both retablos and Ruby.
I enjoyed sitting with her for hours at a time and over the years saw how she helped people in different ways some by giving information about something brought in or buying for the store and the relationships with vendors she knew and cared for. She loaned people having a hard time money. She helped others interested in various aspects of the business which she always loved but often advised others to really think about before getting into.
I enjoyed watching people react to her, some thought her gruff or grumpy. If only they knew her like so many of us did. Ruby was super sharp so those who thought they might get something by her were in for a big surprise! She could read people like no one else.
What was most enjoyable though were the many stories about her childhood, her Daddy, and her kids. Stories of Flash the station wagon cruising by parties to let her kids know she knew where they were. Her nickname Bleacher Butt due to being at games etc for her kids even attending more than one in a day. Ruby lit up when she spoke of her children. A lot of love there.
Ruby was a great friend, and unforgettable person.

We are so sorry for your loss. Ruby was always so sweet and kind to everyone, not only family. I remember she made a baby shower for me 40+ years ago. I was so grateful for all she did for us. We will miss her. May her soul rest in peace.

Hi, Lanette, DeAnne, Stacy, Karen, et al... This is Jim in Florida. I was so sorry to hear the news about Ruby. She was truly a great friend, teacher, mentor, and such a wonderful friend when Sharon passed.

I was just thinking today she said many times that when her time came, she wanted to be right there in her store with all of her junk, and I'll be damned if that's not what happened!

I am sure that she is at peace now and already organizing a good time with all of her friends. Save me a place, Ruby... I'll be there some day.........

Condolences and hugs to all, Jim Hartman

Our thoughts are with the family of Ruby a very beloved friend who will be greatly missed as there are so few like her, truly one of a kind lady who was friends to so many and whether help, advice, or a good story was needed I knew who to go to as many of us have over the years. For my Husband and me it was an honor to Have Ruby as a friend.
We enjoyed her wit, independence, knowledge, the love she had for family and the lucky ones who got to know her. Rest in peace beautiful friend.

Our condolences to all of you. I'll always remember Ruby at her shop, Ruby loading a ton of us in her station wagon to go watch Tommy play football, laughing with her at her condo after the Fairway house. So many beautiful memories of a wonderful woman. She will be missed.
