Manuel M. Hernandez, 97, our devoted father, went peacefully home to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014. "Manny" was born on February 22, 1917 in Smeltertown, Texas and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a custodian for fifteen years. He was also a very proud World War II Veteran, honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during battle. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Angela R. Hernandez; parents, Miguel and Guadalupe Hernandez; sisters, Maria, Teresa and Pablita Hernandez; brother, Rafael Hernandez; and granddaughter, Angie Sanchez. He is survived by sisters, Carmen and Concha Hernandez, brother, Jose Hernandez; eight children, Terri Martinez, Mike Hernandez (Edna), Robert Hernandez, Maria Elena Hernandez, Manuel Hernandez, Jr. (Mary), Alice Jimenez, Rebecca Sanchez (Roger), and Rachael Banales (Nash); thirteen grandchildren, Michael and Rose Hernandez, Ruth Addison, Renee Alvis, Ben and Sara Bond, Manny B. Hernandez, Adrian, Alex, Adam and Anthony Jimenez, Tury Sanchez, and Nicole Banales; and six great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Jacob Addison, Jacob Alvis, Manny B. Hernandez, Jr., Samara Foreman and Leo Balderrama. Special thanks to all who contributed in the care of our father during his last years with us. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2014. Funeral Mass will be 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark with Interment following at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
