CHARLES HAMMOND

CHARLES BASSETT HAMMOND, 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2013 after a long illness in Las Cruces, NM. Charlie was born in El Paso, TX and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. Upon graduation from high school he attended The University of Texas in Austin and completed his Business degree in Accounting. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves. Charles returned to El Paso after graduation and worked at the State National Bank and later became the president of Bassett California Corporation and Bassett Center. He is survived by his children; Avery Rowles and Charlie B. Hammond both of Dallas TX, and Laura Hammond of Madison, WI and two grandchildren, Cash and Benjamin Rowles; his sisters, Katherine Ulmer of Walterboro, SC, Victoria Hammond of Manchester, NH, and Elizabeth Craig of Houston, TX; his cousins, Giles Weisenberger of El Paso TX, Flory Ellis of Fort Worth, TX and Barbara Tomicki of Santa Barbara, CA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Hammond; his parents, Betty and Charles Hammond, and sister Myra Hammond. A Celebration of Life and Inurnment Service will be held in the spring in El Paso, TX. He will lovingly be remembered for his love of history, his sense of humor, and his kind heart. He will be greatly missed by many. Entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces.
