Marie Mills Kolliker passed from this life on November 19, 2013. She was 82. Born December 12, 1930 in Pennsylvania and later reared in New Jersey, she married young and traveled West to El Paso with her family in 1965. After raising her five children, she studied to be a docent at the El Paso Museum of Art in 1973. This awakened a passion for painting long held by Marie. She continued her studies at the University of Texas at El Paso toward a teaching degree in Art and with many well- known local artists. A one-woman show of Marie's work was exhibited at the UTEP Centennial Museum in 1983. Her paintings have been included in several juried art shows at the El Paso Museum of Art and sold at the Dos Pojaras Gallery in El Paso, The Lundeen Gallery in Las Cruces and the Madero Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. Demonstrations of her painting technique were sought after by local art and other organizations. Marie loved El Paso and served the Community as a volunteer at the El Paso Museum of Art for over 20 years, was president two years of the Rio Bravo Watercolorists and two years President of the El Paso Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters, Chairman-Director of the Women's Dept. of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Rotary Club of El Paso. Her husband and mentor for 13 years, William A. Kolliker, was internationally known for his fine art paintings, etchings and lithographs. He preceded her in death and took a piece of her heart with him. Their love and life together was almost like a Fairy Tale. She is survived by her five children, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be Dec 14 with rosary at 12:30pm and Memorial Service following at 1pm at Martin Funeral Home West. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of El Paso or to the El Paso Chapter of National Society of Arts and Letters.
