Robert Gravem Webb Obituary

Dr. Robert "Bob" Gravem Webb, 91, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
Robert was born in Long Beach, California, on February 18, 1927 to Edward Walter Webb and Eva Gravem Webb. He was raised an Episcopalian. He received his Bachelor's degree at UCLA, his Master's degree at Oklahoma University, than received his PhD at University of Kansas at Lawrence. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. He married Patricia Ann Peden, on May 24, 1986. He was a resident of El Paso for 55 years before moving to San Angelo.
He was President of the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR) in 1980, a herpetologist and expert in Biosystematics and Biogeography of reptiles and amphibians of the U.S. and Mexico. He published over 100 scientific papers and two books, described 19 new species of reptiles and amphibians, had a New Mexico snake named after him, and was a world authority on Softshell turtles. He taught at University of Texas at El Paso from 1962 through 1992 and became Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biological Sciences in 1992.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Peden Webb, stepson Christopher Webb and wife Grace and 5 grandchildren, Simon Webb, Sebastian Webb, Gunner Webb, Seth Webb, and Sawyer Webb.
