Lewis B. Burleson. Lewis Burleson, 84, of Midland passed away September 11, 2008. Lewis was born in El Paso Texas, on June 19, 1924 to parents Milton Burleson and Elizabeth Brown Burleson. He was raised in El Paso and after graduating from Austin High School, in El Paso, he enrolled at Texas School of Mines. When World War II started he was drafted and served in the Army in the Engineering and Topographic Company. Lewis was stationed in England, France, and Germany during the War. After the war he returned to Texas. He graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in Geology. His first job was in Midland, Texas where he met J. Kathryn Kay Kendrick. They were married on June 15, 1951, in Midland. Lewis worked for the Atlantic Refining Company out of Roswell, New Mexico, as well as Lake Charles, Louisiana, before he returned to Midland and went to work for Joseph O'Neill as his chief geologist. While with O'Neill, he met Jack Huff and in early 1959, they started Burleson and Huff. They worked as partners until 1979, which was when Lewis started Lewis B. Burleson, Inc. Lewis was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, where he and Kay were married. He was also active in the AAPG, as well as a member of the AAPG Foundation. He was also active in the Exchange Club of Midland. Lewis especially liked going on Wednesday nights to his golf and dinner group. He also loved going to his Ranch in Christoval with his family. In recent years he funded the Kathryn Burleson Fund in the School of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Kay; his brother Neal; and twin brother John. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Nancy Rapp and husband Darin, of Midland, Texas and her children, Ryan and Tiffany Hayes, Zach Hayes, Lance Hayes, and Lexi Rapp; son, Steven and wife Elizabeth, of Midland, Texas and their children, Brett, Eric, and Alyssa. Lewis also is survived by his sisters- in-law, Merle Taylor of Midland, Texas, Betty Burleson of Richmond Virginia, and Mary Feldman of San Antonio, Texas; nephews, Brian Burleson and wife Mary of Plano, Texas, Ken Feldman and wife Sharon of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bobby Feldman and wife Jean of Oregon; and cousin, Bennet and wife Rosalee Johnson of Los Cruces, New Mexico. He also leaves behind his good friend, Helen Lydecker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Kathryn Burleson Fund for Excellence at The Texas Tech Foundation, Attn. Bess Haley, Box 41081, Lubbock Texas 79406. The family received friends at Ellis Funeral Home Sunday, September 14, 2008 between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. Graveside services were 9:00 A.M. Monday, September 15, 2008 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Memorial services in honor of Lewis were held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 15, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church.
