Houston F. Latimer, Jr. 76, passed away August 31, 2013 in El Paso, Texas, born in Ft. Worth, Texas, January 22, 1937. He had been a Truck Driver for over 40 years and retired with ABF Freightlines after 25 years of service. Houston started dirt track racing in the 60's and raced through the 70's at various racetracks. He then went on to build racecars for his son, David to race; he stayed very involved in dirt track racing until his death. He was an avid NASCAR fan where he would root for his favorite dirt track boy, Smoke to win every race. Houston was preceded in death by his parents, Houston Franklin Latimer, Sr. and Retha Epperson Latimer and his brother, Elwood Latimer. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Latimer; his daughter, Terry L. Campbell; son, David H. Latimer; his beloved 5 grandchildren, Stephen (Chip) Ross; Leslie (Fish) Latimer; Andrew (Studder B.) Latimer; Corbin (Dale) Campbell and Zoe Marie Latimer; his sister, Mildred Fisher of Crowley, Texas. He is also survived by his step-children, Gayla Baldwin, Kenneth and Jerry Slawson and his beloved step-grandchildren, Brandon (Footes) Slawson, Jessica (JessieBug) Slawson-Hronich; Royce (Rowdy) Slawson; Kelsie (Firestick) Baldwin and Morgan (Picabo) Slawson and 2 great-grandchildren, Mikyla and Axel Slawson. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 22nd at 2:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made in Houston Latimer's name to the El Paso Humane Society, 4991 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, Texas 79906. Arrangements by Martin Funeral Home, 3839 Montana Ave.
