Julio Montes Sr. Obituary
Julio Montes Sr. 76, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Born April 9, 1942 in El Paso, TX to Rosa and Petronilo Montes, he was the second of three sons. "Jockey" was a champion boxer, undefeated in the Golden Gloves from 1957-1959, and a proud 1960 graduate of Bowie High School. He honorably served the United States Air Force, stationed in Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX where he met and married the love of his life Elda Gonzales Montes. He received his bachelor's degree from UTEP and master's degree from Sul Ross State University. He was an educator, administrator and coach for over 30 years. He enjoyed music, dancing, golf, cooking out with family, watching all sports especially his grandchildren's sporting events.
Julio is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Pete and Hector. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Elda, son Julio Jr., daughters Sandra (Jesse) and Debra, five grandchildren; Julio III, Jacob, Noah, Mateo and Isabella and great granddaughter Amelia and beloved extended family. Pallbearers will be Julio Montes Jr, Jesse Uranga, Hector Montes, Michael Montes, Julio Montes III, Jacob Uranga, Noah Montes and Mateo Valencia.
Our family invites you to join us in celebrating his life on Monday, September 17, 2018. Visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. followed by rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Funeral Home-East, 10950 Pelicano Dr., El Paso TX. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills Blvd. El Paso, TX. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. We invite you to wear blue in honor of his beloved alma mater "La Bowie."
