September 6, 1950 – February 6, 2019
Karen Cox passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on February 6, 2019 at the age of 68. Karen was a longtime resident of El Paso, Texas. She was born in Tallassee, Alabama to Lamar & Jean Thornton and raised in Montgomery, AL. Karen was a beloved wife to her husband Ray Cox of El Paso for 47 years as well as being a devoted mother to daughter Bonnie of El Paso and son Timothy & daughter-in-law, Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL. She was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren Wila & Liam Cox of Jacksonville, FL. Karen is also survived by her sister, Rhonda and brother-in-law Fred Peterson of Fortson, GA, niece, Mandy Peterson Taft of Columbus, GA, and grand- nephews, Mathew and Cole of Columbus, GA.
Karen was a graduate of Lee High School in Montgomery, AL and Troy University in Troy, AL.
Karen spent her career working for of Phelps Dodge Corp. (now Freeport-McMoRan).
Karen was a long-time, devoted and active member of Trinity-First United Methodist Church (TFUMC), TFUMC Women's Group, TFUMC – Choir, and TFUMC New Life Sunday School Class.
Karen was also a devoted and active member of The Women's Club of El Paso.
A memorial service will be held for her in El Paso at 1:00 pm Sat. Feb. 16, 2019 at Trinity-First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Mesa. 79902 Reception to follow at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Trinity-First United Methodist Church, The Women's Club of El Paso or Hospice of El Paso. Please include her name on the memo line.
