Alicia Franco Garcia December 26, 1931-March 23, 2014 In our hearts and minds, we will always remember our Mother-one of true beauty, love, and strength. She was born in Terlingua, Texas to the late Vicente and Santos Franco and raised in Fort Stockton, Texas. One day, mother was sitting alongside our grandmother when she saw a handsome young man passing by. At that moment, she knew that he would be hers forever …his name was Gregorio Garcia. They married and moved to El Paso, Texas to start their new life and raise a family. For nearly 50 years of marriage, they raised 6 sons and enjoyed seeing their family grow through marriages, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Our parents loved to socialize, dance, and when she dressed up, she was the Belle of the Ball. Before the days of microwaves and fast food, our mother served full course meals. No one ever left her home hungry. Holidays were the best. Dad would carve her delicious ham and everyone would enjoy all her great home-cooking. She shared family recipes with her daughter-in-laws for the benefit of her sons. Her hospitality was felt by everyone entering our home at all times, especially when the neighborhood kids came to our candy store. It was a very popular spot in the Hacienda Heights area in the days that Tom's and Frito lay trucks delivered to homes. Due to her incredible ability to manage our family's monies, we enjoyed family outings and summer vacations. Going to the beach during our vacations were her favorite-sitting on the Pier enjoying her favorite snack of fish and chips. Fundraising, volunteering, and being an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post 8782, March of Dimes, and San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church were very important areas of her life. Together our parents were also active members for 25 years of the Carolina Happiness Senior Citizens Center. When our dad's illness set in and given 1 year to live, her undying love, devotion, and constant care helped our dad live another 16 years. Now they are together in eternal life alongside our brother Hector Garcia "Nonito", their grandson; Rudy Lee Garcia, her siblings; Bonifacio and Julian Franco and Juana Sarabia. She felt and shared God's love and blessings every day with family, friends, and the community. That love will continue to be felt and paid forward by sons; Gregorio Garcia, Jr. (Guadalupe), Rudy Garcia (Isabel), David Garcia (Lillian), Pastor Bobby Garcia (Lupe), and Edmundo "Eddie" Garcia, siblings; Catarina Esparza (Brijido), Rita Aboytes (Pete), and Reymundo Franco, 10 grandchildren; Louie, Brenda, Gregorio III, Hector, Michael, Veronica, Nicole, Melody, Bethany, and Sara, 19 great-grandchildren; Jeanette, Bianca, Christian, Fabian, Jazmine, Andy, Victoria, Elizabeth, Isaak, Katherine, Eian, Aiden, Gregorio IV, Gianna, Vianey, Wunuen, Aleksandra, Yaritza, and Hector, Jr. Other survivors include numerous family members, friends, and beloved dogs-Chico, Flaco, and Sophia. We welcome you in accompanying us to our Mother's visitation on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at San Jose Funeral Home-East located at 10950 Pellicano Dr. from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Monday March 31, 2014 at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. located at 503 Hunter Dr. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are; Gregorio Garcia III, Hector Garcia, Eian Garcia, Michael Garcia, Andy Uribe, and Rosendo Abalos. The Garcia Family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers for helping us with our mother during these last few years. We are also grateful to all whose thoughts, prayers, and wonderful shared memories of our beloved mother. They have given us great peace and comfort. "Mom you were our world, our inspiration, and our heart."
