Ronald David Dettman
El Paso - Ronald David Dettman, 83, entered Heaven's gates on December 30, 2020. He was born in La Porte, Indiana on February 1st, 1937 and spent a portion of his childhood in Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Illinois but eventually made his way with family to El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Austin High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from Texas Western College. He taught English and Journalism at Bel Air High from 1959 to 1976 and later taught at Parkland High School. He also was a disc jockey at both KROD and KTSM News Radio and had the perfect radio voice. He loved reading and writing as well as music and learned to play the guitar himself. One of his favorite hobbies was singing with the Border Chorders for several years. He always led everyone in family sing-a-longs at all family gatherings.
He is survived by his children: sons David (Tammy) and Craig, daughters Robin and Laura and grandchildren Michael and Kaitlyn. Also survived by sisters Carole Kleinschmidt and Kay (Bob) Neale, half brother Victor Bunton, multiple nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Doogie. We will miss his singing, laughter and especially his silly dad jokes. A memorial service will be held later in the year due to the current pandemic situation in order to keep family and friends safe.
