Jose "Joe" Ruben Rodriguez of Clint, Texas, passed away on January 9, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in San Elizario, Texas to Francisca and Seferino Rodriguez. He married the love of his life, Caroline Alvarez, on September 2, 1967. He served in the Naval Reserves and Army before dedicating 32 years to law enforcement with the El Paso Police Department and United States Border Patrol, retiring as a Supervisory Special Agent. He is preceded in death by his parents, Seferino and Francisca Rodriguez, and his sisters, Soledad Rodriguez, Paulina Lopez, Luz Rodriguez and Frances Rojas. Joe is survived by his wife, Caroline, sons Richard Adrian and Ruben David, daughter Rebecca Velarde, son-in-law Adrian Velarde, and sisters Evangelina Macias (Frank) and Locha Vigil (Ernest). He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, infinite compassion, and gentle loving spirit. He will also be remembered for his keen sense of humor; as a final request, he asked to be buried on his right side as his left knee always gave him problems. Visitation and Rosary will be at Martin Funeral Home East (Funeraria Del Angel) at 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, Texas on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. and the Rosary will start at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at San Lorenzo Catholic Church at 13021Center Way, Clint, Texas on Friday January 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Lopez, Adrian Velarde, Osbie Rojas, David Macias, Ronald Callaway, and John Vigil.
