Douglas Glenn Pendergras, Sr., went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2018 in Austin, Texas at the age of 84. Doug was born in Newcastle, Texas on January 28, 1934. He proudly served his country in the Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. He attended Texas Christian University and worked in the nursing home business for 55 years and had many entrepreneurial endeavors including airlines, oil, and music. Doug was a pioneer in the nursing home business, served as President of American Health Care Association and helped create the Texas Health Care association. He truly loved taking care of the aged and disabled. Doug had a voracious love of life. He loved traveling, playing golf with friends and his Texas Longhorns Football. Doug loved his wife, Sally of 18 years, his children, grandchildren and friends dearly. Doug touched many lives and was loved by all. We are all blessed to have had him with us for as long as the Lord let us! Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sally and his children: Sharon (Ted), Kirk, Barbara (Alice), David (Carmen), Julie, Doug, Don (Genna); stepchildren Bill (Ariana) and David (Anne); and grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott), Michael (Kelly), Ronnie, Sarah, Samantha, Trey, Melanie, Garett, Max, Livia, Julian, Hunter, Ian, Abby, Noah, Max, Morgan and Jackson, 6 great grandchildren and by his sister Janice (Gene) Mays. Doug was proceeded in death by his parents: Thomas Jefferson Pendergrass, Sr. and Susie Pearl Pendergrass; sisters: Betty Jo Pendergrass, Vaudine Proffitt, Elouise McDonnell and brother T.J. Pendergrass, Jr. A visitation will be held on February 2, 2018 from 5pm - 7pm at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 78705. Doug's celebrations of life will be held at the Austin Oaks Church on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2 pm. Located at 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd. Austin, TX 78749. A Reception will follow at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa, 8212 Barton Club Dr., Austin, TX 78735 In lieu of flowers donations can be made to USO (www.uso.org) or to Austin Oaks Church at 4220 Monterey Oaks Blvd., Austin, TX 78749 For those desiring, you may also access the online guest registry and obituary at www.wcfish.com. I worked for Doug at the Pebble Creek Nursing Facility in El Paso.
It was a beautiful facility and he always strived for the best care of its residents.RIP.

I played with & rode bicycles with Doug when he lived in Newcastle. I remember his father Jeff when he moved back to Newcastle & married Mrs Wray.I had lost contact with Doug but was happy to read that he had had a successful life.
