Atalo J. Méndez was born in southern Mexico in the beautiful city of Teziutlán, Puebla. At an early age his family moved to the capital city of Puebla, where he grew up. He attended the state sponsor ed Academy of Fine Arts in his teen years. In 1979 he immigrated to the United States and began working as an illustrator at the Baptist Spanish Publishing House in El Paso, Texas. He went on to win many awards for his art and even taught watercolour at UTEP.
As a young man Atalo, after much soul-searching and deep questions, found peace as he surrendered to Jesus Christ and decided to become His follower. Preaching and sharing the gospel with others was his main passion and he led many people to accept salvation offered through Jesus. He was the pastor of the Congregación Bautista Hispana de Ysleta for 27 years until his health started failing him. Atalo was married to Gloria Faye Williams for 47 beautiful years, and have 3 children: Andrea Faye, Christopher James and Keilah Marie. They have 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson, who is his namesake.
Memorial services to be held Friday, October 16th at 6 p.m. at Congregación Bautista Hispana de Ysleta, 8601 Alameda Ave.
Atalo J. Méndez nació en el sur de México en la hermosa ciudad de Teziutlán, Puebla. A temprana edad su familia se mudó a la capital Puebla, donde creció. Asistió a la Academia de Bellas Artes becado por el estado. En 1979 emigró a Estados Unidos y comenzó a trabajar como ilustrador en Baptist Spanish Publishing House en El Paso, Texas. Luego ganó muchos premios por su arte e incluso dio clases de acuarela en UTEP. Cuando era joven y después de mucho examen de conciencia y preguntas profundas, encontró la paz al entregarse a Jesucristo y decidió convertirse en su seguidor. Predicar y compartir el evangelio con otros fue su principal pasión y llevó a muchas personas a aceptar la salvación ofrecida a través de Jesús. Fue párroco de la Congregación Bautista Hispana de Ysleta durante 27 años hasta que su salud empezó a fallarle. Atalo estuvo casado con Gloria Faye Williams durante 47 hermosos años y tiene tres hijos: Andrea Faye, Christopher James y Keilah Marie. Tienen 11 nietos y un bisnieto, el cual es su tocayo. Los servicios conmemorativos se realizarán el viernes 16 de octubre a las 6:00 p.m. en la Congregación Bautista Hispana de Ysleta, en el 8601 Alameda Ave.

My deepest condolences to such a beautiful family. I grew up knowing this family. It was truly some of the best years of my life. You all are always in my thoughts and prayers.
