Rhoades Schroeder Obituary
Rhoades grew up in Glendale, Webster Groves in Kirkwood, Missouri. He received a BA in Geology at University of Colorado in Boulder, received his Masters degree at Washington U in St. Louis, MO, and Masters + 30 at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. He taught school in Kirkwood, MO. He attended ROTC at CU and served two years in Puson, Korea. Rhoades then left the Air Force as a Captain at Floyd Bennett Air Base in New York City and worked in television at American Broadcasting Company as a writer for two years in New York City. Rhoades returned to Kirkwood, MO and became creative director of the Men and Children's Division of Brown Shoe Company (Roblee, Pedurn, and Buster Brown). He moved to Ste. Genevieve, MO, the oldest town west of the Mississippi River, to a home overlooking the Mississippi. That same year, he also bought a home from Andy Anderson on Laurel Lane off High Dr. in Estes Park, CO. He traveled extensively over the world with a companion, a medical doctor. His favorite spot was the Island of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands, spending four months each summer there for a period of five years.
