Dr. Clayton C. "Ted" Lindemuth Sr., D.O.

1936 - 2020

Dr. Clayton C. "Ted" Lindemuth, Sr., D.O., 84, of Edinboro, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Embassy of Park Avenue in Meadville.

He was born on January 25, 1936, in Conneaut Lake, Pa., son of the late William C. Lindemuth and Doris Jones Coleman.

Clay graduated from Meadville High School, earned a bachelor's degree at University of Buffalo, and a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1966. From 1966-1971, he was a general surgery resident at South Point Hospital in Cleveland, where he also trained in thoracic and vascular surgery, becoming a board-certified surgeon. In Erie, Pa., Clay built a thriving practice in general, thoracic and peripheral vascular surgery, which spanned 35 years. Innumerable patients sought his surgical skill and willingness to take them on after being deemed inoperable and turned away elsewhere. "He saved my life!" was a statement often associated with him. After ending his private practice, he continued practicing medicine at the Erie VA, until his retirement in 2013. During his career, he taught countless medical students, interns and residents, and was adjunct professor at LECOM. He served as a board member for Stairways, and was involved in various professional associations. Interestingly, he also was a talented accordion player.

Dr. Lindemuth was married twice. In 1957, he married Roxanne Johnson, his "highschool sweetheart", and together, they raised their three sons, Clay "Butch", Tom and Roger. After Roxanne's untimely death in 1992, Clay eventually found love again and married Angela Palys in 1994. Their first son, Andrew, arrived in 1995, and two years later, their second son, Michael came along. Their two boys were the center of Clay's and Angela's life. They enjoyed boating, swimming, tubing, spending time at their farm in Cambridge Springs and travelling the country. Sadly, as Clay was approaching his 80th birthday, dementia insidiously set in, ultimately robbing him of his tenacity and benevolent mind. Dementia however, also spared him from the heartbreak of tragically losing his youngest son, Michael, in April of 2019, at the age of 21.

Survivors include Clay Jr. "Butch" (Lorrie) of New York, Tom of Florida, Roger of Erie and Andrew of Florida. He is further survived by his grandkids Rina, Ryan, Cody, Dylan, and great-granddaughter Ava.

Due to the Covid pandemic, all services are private. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg.

The Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home in Meadville has been entrusted with the care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
