Robert Evans Obituary

Dr. Robert "Bob" Evans, 82, of Erie, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 5, 2020.

He was born in Erie on June 3, 1938, a son of the late Volney and Margaret (Kowalski) Evans.

Bob graduated with a B.A. in Pre Med from Gannon University in 1960 and went on to graduate from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1964. He practiced medicine at Millcreek Community Hospital and had his own osteopathic family practice from 1965 until 1996.

Bob joined the staff at LECOM in 1996 as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He retired from LECOM at the age of 80. Bob enjoyed practicing medicine, but found his true passion in educating future medical professionals.

In his earlier years, Bob was an avid photographer and gardener. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to New York City where he was a "tour guide" to many family members, friends and colleagues. Bob was dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle and worked out six to seven days per week at Lecom Fitness Center until the age of 79. Most recently, Bob especially looked forward to dinners at The Colony Pub and Grille, where he could spend time with his family and enjoy a good Manhattan. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. Bob had his family and caregivers laughing and smiling until the end.

Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Elizabeth, who died in infancy.

He is survived by his five children, Robert of Tallahassee, Fla., Timothy, Eric, Susan Evans, all of Erie, and Kathleen (Bob) Moliterno of Cincinnati, Ohio, four grandchildren, Matthew, Steven, Joseph and Sofia Moliterno, a loving sister, Shirley (Evans) Andrikanich of Madison, Ohio, a niece, Doreen (Brad) Davis of Madison, Ohio and his friend, William Forrest.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to "Dr. E's" caregivers, Maria Wawrzyniak, Tierra Gamble, and Emila Kovacevic, who took exceptional care of him and treated him like their own family.

In an effort to keep our friends and family safe, a funeral mass will be held at a later date. The Kloecker-Razanauskas Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

DR Evans was a special person who listened to his patients and followed up with them. I hope those he taught remember his teachings as he was the best!!

Dr. Evans was one of my first mentors/teachers on this journey into medicine. I often myself quoting the good doctor, one that can probably still be heard echoing through the halls of LECOM... "Repetition is the key to mastery!" In fact, as I sit here, helping my young son prepare for a math class, I repeated the same phrase, and told him of my time with Dr. Evans. Immediately, I remembered another gem of the old wise doctor: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? .... PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" Words I strive to live by daily. My 9 year old son loved this, so we looked up Dr. Evans to see if he was still teaching at LECOM only to find he passed on. Not gone, his teachings live on in generations of young doctors who will pass on his wisdom. Thank you Dr. Evans and I am forever grateful for teachers like you. My condolences to family and friends.

To My Second Family, The Evans’ , and my Dearest Longest Best Friend Sue (Q),
I cannot even find the words to tell you how heartbroken I am that your Dad has passed. I will not forget the last time I saw your Dad, and when you asked him if he remembered me, he replied “No, I don’t remember Debbie DeLuca!” He was such a funny man, and made the world a happier and healthier place to be.
Q, your Dad couldn’t have asked for a better daughter and family. He loved you all so much. Now he will continue to live in you, as he watches over you (and hopefully he doesn’t watch what we eat, even though he even shared our love for pop and chocolate this past year)!
I know it will take time for your heart to accept this new life without his presence, but you remember how much he loved life, and wants you to do the same. I am always here for you, and pray everyday for your peace and healing. Love ya, Luca

Dr. Evans was my family's doctor when I was a kid and then my own family's doctor till he left private practice.

When I was 18 I decided I wanted to get my ears pierced, but I didn't trust the places in the mall that did it. So I asked him to do it. He seemed a little taken aback, but he agreed to do it. He marked my ears and we discussed whether the marks were even. Then he sterilized a needle, pushed it through my ear, and followed the needle with my earring. Then the other ear. That was 50 years ago, and I still have earrings in those old holes.

What a guy! So down to earth and knowledgeable at the same time. And he always had a special energy about him.

I'm very sad to hear that he's gone. May God bless you all with comfort and peace in his absence.

Dear Family of Bob Evans,
I was saddened to read about the passing of your father, Dr. Evans and offer my/our condolences to all of you. We were neighbors years ago on Feidler Drive, and most of you went to OLP with the Keim children. It's been awhile since we've seen one another, and I enjoyed reading the location of all of you Evans boys and girls. Your dad had quite an accomplished career. May you all find peace and healing in the days ahead, especially during these days of Advent.
Sincerely,
Helen Keim Schneider and family

Dr. Evans was an inspiring physician and educator. He represented the best of the Osteopathic principles of mind, body and spirit and encouraged LECOM medical students to employ those principles as caring and compassionate physicians. With each new class, Dr. Evans would explain that physicians don’t cure patients. They use the best medical knowledge to help the body heal itself.

Dr. Evans was my family physician from shortly after he graduated from medical school until shortly before retiring from medical practice and joining the faculty at LECOM. After his retirement from practice, he encouraged and supported my own employment on staff at LECOM. He also became a social friend, with whom I enjoyed dining out and attending musical and theater (musical and otherwise, as he'd specify!) performances at Chautauqua and Erie productions. Dr. Evans will surely be missed not only by me but also by many others who were fortunate enough to know him. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and other friends and colleagues.

Dr. Evans was our family doctor for years. He delivered me and then was my doctor as a child and all through my childhood and eventually he was my children's doctor until he became a medical educator in 1996. His compassion and skill was second to none. He will be greatly missed.
