Paul J. Kapsar, Sr., 81, of Erie, died December 19, 2011 at the St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, Pa. on May 29, 1930, a son of the late Paul A. and Della (Raid) Kapsar. Paul graduated from St. Joseph Grade School Class of 1944 and graduated from Academy High School in the August Class of 1947. He served in the U. S. Marines during the Korean War, retiring from the Marine Reserves as a Gunnery Sergeant. He was retired employee of the St. Vincent Health Center Engineering Department. He was an active member of the St. Joseph Church â€" Bread of Life Community, involved in the Parish Council, Restoration Committee, Usher and CCD. He was a Scout Master for the Explorers Group and member of the Order of the Arrow and the Christian Family Movement. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Irma J. (Schneider) Kapsar. Three daughters. Marie Kapsar of Rochester, N.Y., Margaret Cooley and her husband, Russell of Erie and Rita Kapsar of Erie. Three sons, Paul J. Kapsar, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Mark Kapsar and his wife, Amy of North East, Pa. and Matthew Kapsar and his wife, Jamiee of Erie. Grandchildren, Jeremy, Ryan, Lindsay, Andrew, Eric, Jeremy, Maribeth, Stephanie, Russell, April, John, Logan, Luke, Maria, Victoria and Eli. Great Grandchildren, Kylie, Tyler, Rylee, Cassidy, Syra, Ethan, Aiden, Patrick, Jacob, Janissa and Veronyka. Two sisters, Dorothy Banigan and Frances Garr and two brothers, Thomas Kapsar and Robert Kapsar and his wife, Marie and many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St. on Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Church â€" Bread of Life Community at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome,com Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery.
