Amee and family, I would like to thank you and St. Pat's for the BEAUTIFUL mass I attended today. I'm sure Jim was looking down with a big smile, and so proud of Evan and Chris giving their eulogies. I would expect nothing else. I have such wonderful memories of Perky he was my first true love and I was his first true love. Perky used to come to my house and I would give him perms every few months when I was going to Beauty School. It was hilarious. I remember when he asked me to be his girlfriend I’ll never forget that he gave me his high school class ring I couldn’t wait to put pink yarn around it so it fit on my finger. We also had a dog and when we got the dog is when I first started going with Perky our family name the dog after him. I Remember the first time I met his mom at his house and she made us a grilled cheese and tomato and the reason why I remember that is because it was the best grilled cheese and tomato I have ever had and he was so cute about it. I have to admit I was always afraid of his piranhas. Especially when I would go to dinner at his house and the Fish-tank was right behind me. Perky and I went out for dinner all the time at Fergie’s or South Erie pizza. It seems like it all just happened yesterday and time just flew by so fast. I am so saddened by his passing RIP Perky. Jim was a great guy. Lamjen was one of our main vendors and he was our main contact for many years (Zurn/Aalborg/Indeck) and was a pleasure to work with and will be missed. Our prayers are with you all.

We’ve been blessed as a family to know Jim for the last 5 years. It’s been half a decade of love, laughter, and banana pudding. Our family is so lucky to have known Jim as a best friend, and for some of us he’s also been a brother, an uncle, and a second father. Jim never failed to light up a conversation with his dry humor, the kind you sometimes don’t quite process in its entirety until a few seconds after- filling the room with a delayed burst of laughter. What was even sweeter about Jim’s character was the way he showed his care and love for you. You’d mention you liked some snack once and the next time you went over to his house it was in the fridge ready for you to enjoy (@jordans sweet chili Doritos, @laceys Yasso bars and vegan burgers). These subtle touches made Jim the man we hold so dearly in our hearts. There’s so much more to say, we could write on for days. We love you Amee, Evan, Critter “R”, Jordan, and family. We thank you for welcoming us into your family and sharing him with us. We love you Jim, thank you for changing our lives for the better.

To Amee, Evan, family, and friends of Jim, Our deepest heartfelt sympathy and condolences. I came to know Jim through MPS Baseball, and my son Dan played with Evan on several OUTSTANDING talented teams. Jim was such a likable guy, smart, and a passionate Erie School Board Director, who ALWAYS put the students first. He was never boisterous, just got his point across directly and calmly. I will always remember and cherish our talks at Ainsworth Field, along the 3rd baseline fence, Laker Baseball, and family talk. Jim was just a GOOD all- around person. He also had a great, witty sense of humor, of which I will share, to try to leave all of us who were devastated by his passing, with the way I want to remember our friend. Jim, myself, Coach Durk and a few Laker friends were out having a few brews, and we decided to come to my and Cindi's place to sit out on our deck and have a couple more to enjoy the warm evening. When we all arrived, I got my keys out I discovered that "somehow" my house key was not with my car keys. Of course everyone was giving me a hard time LOL Someone asked me if I had a spare hidden outside somewhere? I said "Nope" and that led to some "WHAT??!!" comments LOL. I said "No worries, I can get in through basement window." Well it was a "little tougher" than I thought. I had to dislodge window frame, crawl down over toilet backwards, Uggghh. I did get in, to the happiness of my guests. They gave me plenty of "grief" over the evening. The next couple times I saw Jim, he would say hello, and ask me, "break into your house lately??"" We both would laugh our tails off!! I consider myself lucky to be able to call Jim my FRIEND God Bless, Dan & Cinidi

I am in total shock. Jim was such a great man. He was there for my daughter 19 yrs. ago when Britt need a lap top for people to people trip. Always there for any student. He is who we need to be on the school district board for a voice for our children and unconditional caring for our children. Amy he will so be greatly missed. He never walked by me without asking how I was doing and asked about the kids. My heart aches for you. You and Jim are such a wonderful couple, and I know he was such a great father image to Christopher.

Perky was a wonderful person. I first heard of him through the Rhoades boys and Boys Baseball, as our league All Star team was going to play his league All Stars down by Hammermill. He was a knuckleballer and I was told certain to strike me out! I was just as determined to hit a home run off him...
Well, I had broken my baby finger on my glove hand a week before the game and this was in the days before designated hitters, so my only hope was as a pinch hitter at some point in the game.
That point came in the 4th inning and his dancing knuckleball quickly had me down 2 strikes! I choked up on the bat and was determined to make contact with the ball at least once!
We settled for a compromise as I did surprisingly (to me anyways) hit a ball to the opposite field that netted me a one bounce over the fence double!
After the game he taught me how to throw the knuckleball and while I never became a pitcher, we became friends, much to the chagrin of anyone who ever played catch with me from that point forward!
To know Perk was to love him! He was a special guy and I will miss running in to him around town for sure.
To the entire Herdzik family, i offer my condolences. May our Lord bring you comfort and peace at this most difficult time and may you too be lifted by fond memories of Perky and the time spent with him!
