James Robert "Perky" Herdzik, age 61, of Erie passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was born in Erie on May 10, 1959, a son of the late Chester and Josephine (Duska) Herdzik.
Jim worked as a sales manager at LAMJEN for 40 years. He served on the Erie School Board for 22 years as a director, fighting rigorously for the children of the district. At the time of his passing, he was the financial secretary for the Huzar Club as a way to embrace his proud heritage.
Jim is survived by his wife of 17 years, Amee A. (Costello) Herdzik; two sons, Evan J. Herdzik and R. Christopher Lilly (Jordan Hunter); a brother Rick Potosnak, wife Kathy; and his beloved dog (daughter) Molly.
Molly was often found during the evenings walking with Jim, which is when Jim made his various phone calls to friends and family. You knew you made it when you were on Jim's call list. He was also so proud of and loved his many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday at St. Patrick Church, 130 East 4th Street from 9 a.m. until the time of a funeral mass at 12 noon. Burial will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The funeral mass will be livestreamed on St. Patrick's website at
