Philip C. Messenkopf Obituary
Philip C. Messenkopf, age 97, of Erie, passed away peacefully, on July 1, 2018. Born in Erie, on May 7, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles and Inez (McCloskey) Messenkopf.

He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1938, and attended Duke University, and then served in the Army Air Corps. He was a realtor and partner in Messenkopf & Eckert Realtors for over 50 years. Phil was well known locally as a magician, and he was also an accomplished jazz pianist and played in many of the local clubs. He also had his own 14-piece dance orchestra at Duke University.

Phil was a member of Perry Keystone Lodge 392 F. & A.M. and the Zem Zem Shrine Club, where he played bagpipes. He was also a member of Lake Shore Country Club, Erie Maennerchor Club and the Sertoma Club of Erie.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death in March of 2018 by his wife, Josephine (Tortorete) Messenkopf, with whom he enjoyed life and love, travel, dancing, golfing and playing cards; daughter, Charlene Teel Volario; and his sister, Lyn McKee.

He is survived by his children, Susan (John) Kania, Charles "Chip" (Patricia) Messenkopf, Sally (Mary) Messenkopf, Kathi (Denis) Baker, Michele (Jerry) Mathers, and Michael (Karen) Ducato; and by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
