PHILLIPSBURG, NJ
Antonio "Tony" Celia, 89, of Phillipsburg, passed away on July 7, 2019, at his residence.
Tony was born in Petrizzi, Catanzaro, Italy. He was the son of the late Frank and Maria Giorla Celia. Tony was married for 67 years to his devoted wife, Mary Destina Cilurso Celia. Tony was a member of Phillipsburg High School Class of 1949.
He served his country in the US Army as a sergeant. Tony was an honor guard at the second War Crimes Trials in Nuremberg, Germany. He was employed as a US Postal Clerk at Phillipsburg for 35 years. He was a realtor beginning with Tom Jones Real Estate Agency and then for the majority of his career with the Budd Agency, where he obtained his broker's license.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son, Vince and his wife, Mary, of Bethlehem; four grandchildren, Jennifer Prokopiw and her husband, Pete, of Cherry Hill, NJ, Aimee Davidson and her husband, Dan, of Bethlehem, PA, Anthony Celia of Philadelphia, PA, Lauren Sharpe of New York City; a great-grandson, PJ of Cherry Hill, NJ. He is also survived by a brother, Vito, of Phillipsburg, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter in 2005, Mary Louise Sharpe, and his brothers, Ralph, Louis and a sister, Jean Dibilio.
Tony was a member of St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, Friends of the Phillipsburg Public Library, VFW, past membership in the American Postal Workers Union, Warren County Board of Realtors, Phillipsburg Exchange Club. He was a current member of the Pursel Hill Assoc. The family would like to thank caregiver Mary Asatiani as well as Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 8:30 to 9:30 at The Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Ave., Alpha, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 830 5th Ave., Alpha, NJ. Interment will be in SPSJ Cemetery in Greenwich Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Antonio's memory to Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860. www.fineganfh.com
