HAMPSTEAD, MD Paul "Bunky" C. Koontz, 77, died Sunday February 3, 2013, at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md. He was the husband of Mamie Elmira Fridinger Koontz. Born November 28, 1935, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Franklin and Anna Lorenz Koontz. He was a retired plant manager for Boral Brick Company. An Army veteran, he was a member of the Hampstead V.F.W., American Legion, Westminster Moose, and a former member of the Carroll County Racing Pigeon Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Sparky. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Paul Koontz, Jr., Brenda Seitz, and Diane Wilder, all of Westminster, Md., Patricia Yingling of York, Susan Potts of Hanover, and Keith Koontz of Thurmont, Md.; and stepchildren, Joan Mitchell of Georgia, William Bisker of York, Karen Kibler of Manchester, Md., Deborah DePalmer of Glen Rock, and Jackie Leister of Westminster. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, John J. Koontz, Ann Bywaters, and Franklin Koontz. The family will receive friends at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, Md., on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Diane Day officiating. Interment will be in John Luther Miller Cemetery, Westminster. If desired, donations may be made to Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 1372 Bachmans Valley Road, Westminster, MD 21158. Mamie, there are no words that I can offer to ease the pain of your loss but I did want you and the family to know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Bunky and I grew up together in Catonsville.
