Helen K. Groft

GETTYSBURG Helen K. Groft, 98, formerly of McSherrystown, was taken to heaven by God's angels on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, from Transitions Healthcare Center, Gettysburg. She was the wife of Francis Chrismer, who died in 1972 and Edgar L. Groft who died in 1997. Born February 8, 1914, in Adams County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Lula (Null) Gebhart. Helen was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, and the Catholic War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary both in Bonneauville. She was retired from Sylvania Shoe Manufacturing Co., McSherrystown. Surviving is one daughter, Cecelia Bushman of Hagerstown, Md.; one son, Timothy Chrismer of McSherrystown; two siblings, Bernard Gebhart of Chambersburg and Anna Pryor of McSherrystown; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five children; Mary Frances Chrismer, Charles Thomas Chrismer, Daniel Chrismer, William Chrismer and Dorothy Strasbaugh; four siblings, Geraldine Miller, Ethel Neiderer and Roger and Richard Gebhart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 noon, Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Bonneauville with Rev. Augusty Valomcalil officiating. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown. Relatives and friends will be received Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown with prayers at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
