Laverne J. Busbey Sr.

HANOVER Laverne J. "Buzz" Busbey, Sr., 87, entered into God's eternal care on Friday, January 18, 2013, at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. He was the husband of Marie T. "Sis" (Miller) Busbey. Born July 17, 1925, in Hanover, he was the son of the late W. Guy and Emma S. (Beck) Busbey. Buzz was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Calvary Club, Hanover Home Association, a life member of Hanover VFW, and a charter member of Midway Fire Co. Buzz served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He formerly served on the Hanover Police Force prior to owning and operating Busbey ESSO Service Station on Broadway, and retired after 23 years from Shultz Chevrolet. Surviving, in addition to his bride of 67 years, are three children, Laverne J. "Buzz" Busbey, Jr. and his wife, Donna of N. Palm Beach, Fla., Deborah M. Mummert and her companion, Mervin Dubbs of Hanover, and Michael J. Busbey and his wife, Melissa of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Kirby, Aaron, and Alicia Mummert, and Joelle Garza; and eight great-grandchildren, Dakota, Christopher, Derek, Jacob, Gage, Aiden, Avery, and William. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne M. Strickler; a grandson, Sean Strickler; and four siblings, Gerald, Harold, and Cyril Busby, and Marie Mundis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. John D. Schmalhofer and the Rev. Anthony Miller concelebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received Monday 4 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Buzz may be made to St. Vincent Church, 220 Third St., Hanover, PA 17331; or Delone Catholic High School, 140 S.
