Chambersburg - Gordon M. Bankert ,83, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Chambersburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 9, 1934 in Hanover PA, the son of the late Paul and Alverta (Burns) Bankert. He was a graduate of Eichelberger High School (Hanover), Gettysburg College, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary (Gettysburg). He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Gordon worked as a Lutheran Minister for many years, first at St. Paul's in Turbotville and Messiah Lutheran in McEwensville, both in north central PA, and then later at Trinity Lutheran in Chambersburg. He later worked as a trust officer for both Valley Bank and F&M Trust Company. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Deetz) Bankert, whom he married in 1959; two children: Jeffrey P. (Joanne) Bankert, Pamela K. Bankert; three grandchildren: Jaclyn Hilberg, Rachel Maxwell, Steven Bankert; three great grandchildren: Evelyn, Alec and Owen Hilberg; two brothers: Frederick (Rebecca) and Terry (Lu Anne) Bankert, and brother-in-law Dale Bollinger. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen (John) Bankert and Loretta Bollinger. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Sharon Kelly, PhD officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
