Harvey J. Bowersox Obituary
HANOVER Harvey J. Bowersox, 100, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at The Brethren Home, New Oxford. He was the husband of Naomi R. (Kreitzer) Bowersox for 75 years. Born April 27, 1911, in Carroll County, Md., he was the son of the late Denton J. and Beulah M. (Morelock) Bowersox. Harvey was a Charles Carroll High School graduate and served in the Army, 63rd Infantry the "Blood & Fire" Division, during WWII. He fought in the front lines beginning in France, advancing into Germany within 100 miles of Berlin. He was employed with Hanover Shoe Co., retiring in 1976 after 36 years of service. In addition to his wife, Harvey is survived by two sons, Allen H. Bowersox of Hanover, and Donald C. Bowersox and wife, Angela of Pleasant Valley, Md.; three grandchildren, Susan Bowersox-Blizzard, Wendy Bowersox, and Jay Bowersox; and five great-grandchildren, Tanner and Linsey Bowersox, Taylor Blizzard, and Kaitlyn and Jordan Blizzard. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Paul Bowersox. Harvey was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Lutheran Church, Silver Run, Md., where he served on church council numerous times, was a Sunday School teacher for many years, and served as sexton with his sons as they were growing up. He was a charter member and past president of Penn Twp.Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award. Harvey was also a member of American Legion Post 14 of Hanover. Funeral service will be Monday, June 6, at 11 a.m.. at St. Mary's Lutheran Church with his pastor, The Rev. H. Lee Brumback, II, officiating. Viewing will be Sunday 6 to 8 p.m.. at Little's Funeral Home, Littlestown. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Silver Run, with full military honors conducted by Littlestown Allied Veterans Council. Memorials in Harvey's name may be sent to St. Mary's Lutheran Church, 3978 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158.
