Victoria A. Smith Obituary
HANOVER Victoria Ann "Vickie" (Hess) Smith, 52, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at home, after a long suffering battle with respiratory and heart issues. She was the wife, for 27 years, of Dennis W. Smith who died April 15, 2010. Born December 2, 1959, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of Imogene L. (Spangler) Hess of Gettysburg and the late James C. Hess. Vickie worked several food service jobs when she lived in Gettysburg including the Dutch Pantry, Gettysburg College and Gettysburg Transformer. After high school, she moved to Wichita, Kansas and met the love of her life, Dennis Smith. They lived a simple life and enjoyed their time together going for walks in the park, fishing, repairing cars and dining out. Vickie was a loyal, compassionate and generous friend and family member who cared deeply for people. She addressed life issues and relationships with others in an honest and straightforward manner. In consideration of all of her health issues, Vickie's most important life decision was made, many years ago, when she committed her life to having faith in God. In addition to her mother, Vickie is survived by a brother, Curtis J. Hess, Eldersburg, Md.; a sister, Christina Estep and her husband, James, Gettysburg; and four nieces, who she really enjoyed spending time with. A service to celebrate the life of Vickie Smith will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with the Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday after 5:30 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home. Following services in Hanover, Vickie will be returned to Wichita, Kansas where she will be laid to rest with her late husband Dennis, in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Vickie's memory to VNA/Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331. To share memories of Vickie (Hess) Smith, please visit
