IRISHTOWN Ralph J. Smith, 86, entered into God's eternal care Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the husband of Corrine B. "Tiny" (Shrader) Smith, who died September 10, 2005. Born September 15, 1926, in Brushtown, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Helen E. (Wilt) Smith. Ralph was retired from Francis E. Klunk Electrical Contractor after 43 years of service. Ralph was a veteran of WWII, proudly serving in the Army. He was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove and a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association, New Oxford Social Club, Irishtown Fire Co., and SAVES. For many years Ralph was very active with the Delone Catholic High School Athletic Association. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. Surviving are four children, Jeanne Myers and her husband, Robert, and Anthony Smith and his wife, Barbara, all of Hanover, Anita Smith of Thomasville, and Brenda Mahone and her husband, Alan of Abbottstown; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary "Mert" Smith of Edgegrove and Marie Welk of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernadette Smith; and six siblings, Grace Neiderer, Gladys Staub, and Clair, Elmer, Harold, and Rodney Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Basilica in Edgegrove, with the Rev Lawrence J. McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received Monday 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m. Contributions in remembrance of Ralph may be made to Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331; or Irishtown Fire Co., 934 Irishtown Road, New Oxford, PA 17350.
