Val was a wonderful friend to my father, Dr. Ted Beyer and our entire family. My mother, Jackie and myself are deeply sorry to hear of his passing. Deborah Beyer

I just learned of Val's passing, I met him once at a workshop and feel so very lucky to have been in his presence. He was so skilled!! but I was impressed and touched by his kindness and genuine manner. The way he connected to people was very down to earth, unpretentious, caring and real ... he is an inspiration and inspired others to be themselves, find themselves and push themselves at a pace that is challenging yet comfortable. When I wrote him an email thank you, he replied "Thank you so much for your words and the pictures and mainly for your presence in the workshop. I can see the intensity and compassion in your face and in what you say. I have deep respect for folks who want to extend their creative lives in new directions and who care about learning and achievement - people like you.
If you ever find your way "up north" and in Western NY. you are welcome to visit us. Elsie will love you. She has your kind of passion and motivation, and is only 82 !!!."
It touched me right then how very much he loved his Elsie. Elsie, I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my heart and prayers.
Sincerely,
brigitte

Val was and is a precious gift to me in my life as an artist and a friend. I was just looking at his glaze book and could hear him sharing whole heartedly all and any information he had. His generosity and open heart will be with me forever. All my Love to Elsie and his family

I was heartbroken to learn of Val's passing. He was one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. As a ceramics professor taught by Ben Culbertson who was taught by Val, I can definitively say that his legacy lives on. Every student I teach is touched by Val. I am breathless when I consider how many people he had personally touched and how many he taught who continue to teach. I hope that his kind and patient manner will live on in me. May all teachers be inspired to share and care as much as he did. He has informed and inspired us all in so many ways. We will miss you Val.

Not being able to know Val is there physically in my world is devastating to me. However he is with me more than ever as I hear his voice while I am working. I feel his encouragement when I am doubting, and I feel his love when I am lonely or sad. I will miss him with all my heart as I continue the passion of his teaching as I move forward as an artist. Val, you meant, and continue to mean so much in my life. My gratitude is boundless.
