Prominent Villar Records USA recording artist passed away.
The talented multi-award singer, Roland Tiangco-Valentino age 57, passed away at Anaheim Hills Kaiser Hospital after a long illness on March 9,2019. He was surrounded by loved ones including his wife of 35 years Roberta Medina.
He was born to Estela Carbonell and Guillermo Tiangco on April 11,1961 in Manila. Roland was already singing at aged 4. From the Philippines,at the age of 9 Roland and his brother Gil joined their parents in Honolulu, Hawaii. While there, he gained fame as the youngest singing sensation serenading tourists with his heavenly voice on Waikiki Beach. He moved to LA with his parents when he was 14 and attended Cal State University Los Angeles as a business major. When he performed in musical productions sponsord by CSULA theatre arts program he found his niche. In the musical" Grease" he dazzled the audience with his unique powerful voice bringing the house down. Roland started his recording career in 1988 with Villar Records USA after winning the much coveted "Best Singer" in a Philippine talent Competition. In the 90's he headlined shows at LA Convention Center, Pomona Fairplex, Del Mar Convention Center, Anaheim Convention Center, Las Vegas Convention Center. In 1998 Roland and his musical partner veteran nightclub pianist Gale Stoddard, formed the Ultimate Duo musical group. They became the most- sought after musical duo in the history of the Southland's Retirement Communities juggling 250 shows a year in the San Diego County, Inland Empire,Los Angeles and Orange Counties. During their tenure in these places, Roland mesmerized tens of thousands of residents with his magnificent voice. His childhood dream came true when in 2006 Christmas Eve and Christmas Day he sang "Santa's Samba" during the World News Tonight TV Show hosted by Brian Rooney. In 2001, the duo wrote the mesmerizing "Christmas Without You" enshrined at the New 911 Museum at the World Trade Center, an honor bestowed only to the very few. Their legacy is the many ongoing charitable projects giving financial support to over 25 Catholic missions all over the world, education of Midwest Native American children and the homeless in the streets. Roland was a truly remarkable and generous human being, one of a kind. He is irreplaceable. He remains unforgettable to the legion of Ultimate Duo's fans who have witnessed the duo's superb musical concerts. He leaves behind his widow Roberta, brother Gil and Ray Tiangco, sister Dolor Doktor, Orville Carbonell and numerous relatives. A memorial service was held at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills.
