FAIRBORN — James Baird Lyman died peacefully at his home Monday, July 14, 2014 with his children by his side. He led one of the most amazing lives one could live. As a young Air Force Officer, he fell deeply in love with his soul mate, Yvonne. Together they raised three wonderful children and danced through life for over 50 years together. While Jim Lyman will be missed more than words can express, knowing that he and Yvonne are together again makes us all smile. Now they're dancing. Graveside funeral will be held at Byron Cemetery, 1 pm Thursday, July 17, with Pastor Craig Fourman officiating. After the service, a celebration-of-life party will be held at his home on Grand Avenue in Fairborn. Attendees are asked to wear brightly colored clothing, bring a brightly colored umbrella.

Think of James so very often, recall the wonderful times we shared in Iran, 1st meeting & the terrific New Years Eve when Marv came out of Iran to join us at the Lyman's in Germany. Also Keith Nelson flew in & we all had a Terrific NY's eve at the Lovely Hotel party that eve.. gorgeous snow fall & fireworks made it a more than memorable eve for each of us... Just perfect! Marv then returned to Tehran until end of Feb... Again our great visits when they' came to IN & out place to enjoy Deer Hunting, we always tried to make it so James did get the 1st shot & he always got his deer! So many times & lot of good fun in Dayton & here in Terre Haute!! Treasured memories, we all enjoyed & know how after Yvonne had us celebrating her Life at a terrific Party w/lots of dear friends, & we did have lots of wonderful stories to share! James would visit after for deer hunting, & The Rogers always had a lovely Hunt Breakfast for all... So many lovely memories... for us all. Those of their children equally fun to recall ... great kids, becoming adults! Love to all, Donna & Marv

I met Jim through our mutual friend Pete Bates, who brought him along on several trips on on our sailboat in North Carolina. He was truly one of a kind and I am glad I had the opportunity to know him. I know you will miss him greatly.

Dear Lyman family,
Anne & I so enjoyed your parents. Can't tell you how many times we embarrassed ourselves at the Officers Club while Herbie Smith played and we sang(?)
A wonderful man & woman; memories we will cherish forever.
So very sorry to see your parents gone, but, you're right, NOW THEY ARE DANCING!
Love & hugs,

Jen, Hanna, Bruce and Geoff, our hearts are heavy over the loss of your dad/grandad. Jim brought such laughter and fun into every situation, which means we all have truly special memories of those treasured times. He will be missed by so many. You will be in our thoughts and prayers with the prayer being that you find strength and comfort in your memories. The stories Jim told of his adventures through life were rich in detail and fun. We will miss him dearly and try to live life as he wanted it lived. Remember rule #1, have fun. With love, the Southern Lyman/Redfearns - Dede, Charlie, Charles, and Caitlyn

Jim and Yvonne are back together.
Those of us, who are members of his Tehran contingent, are left without our favorite storyteller.
We'll miss you Jim.

Jennifer, am so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. Although it's been many years since I had seen them, I'll never forget your charming, gracious and lovely parents......and the stories of their marvelous adventures together in Germany, Italy, Iran...what a life they lived!
