LUMBERTON - Royce Rhodes Barnes Sr., age 89, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at Lumberton Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 19, 1929 in Robeson County to the late Carmer McKinley Barnes and the late Orella Phillips Barnes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was formerly employed as an inspector for Converse, Inc. He was also the owner-operator of the Shell gas station in Lumberton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Beasley Barnes; his sister, Lucille Williamson; and his daughter, Glenda Sue Barnes Carnes. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Louise Devane Barnes of the home; his son, Royce Rhodes Barnes, Jr. and wife Susan; and three grandchildren: Brittany Carnes and husband Jason Campbell, Royce Rhodes Barnes III, and Summer Breeze Barnes, all of Lumberton; and one great-grandchild, Kinlee Campbell. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral on Thursday, July 12, 2018, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Pastor Mike Bowen officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton.
