Schmidt, Karl R.

Karl R. Schmidt, 69, a resident of Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary for the past 2 1/2 years, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born December 23, 1943, in Appleton, the son of Franklin and Alyce Boelter Schmidt. Karl was a graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969. On August 16, 1969, he married Mary L. Wagner at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran in Fond du Lac. Karl was employed by Combination Door, retiring in 1993 as its Vice President. After retirement, he pursued his life-long love for fishing, owning and operating a charter fishing service out of Two Rivers. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt in Wisconsin and fish in the Florida Keys. Karl was a member of Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran, Elks Lodge #57, and the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Association. He proudly served on the United Way, Workshops Board of Directors, and the Fond du Lac Safety Council of which he was a past President.

Surviving is his wife, Mary; a daughter, Andi (Reggie) Rainey of Madison; his son, Jason (special friend Wendy Bodden) of Fond du Lac; and a granddaughter, Savanna Rainey, of Madison. He is further survived by a sister, Jan (Larry) Stuhr, a brother, Phillip Schmidt, both of Fond du Lac; and a special family friend, Jim Graf, also of Fond du Lac. His parents preceded him in death.

Schmidt will be on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and again on Friday, May 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran, 363 S. Main Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM at the church on Friday. Rev. Matthew Agee will officiate and burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery.
