Smith, George R.
George R. Smith, 82, of the Town of Friendship, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born on August 10, 1930, in Fond du Lac, a son of George Theodore and Esther Frieda Schultz Smith.
On April 15, 1951, George married Ardis May Beduhn at First English Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. George operated a dairy farm for many years and later worked at Bergstrom Automotive.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially having his family over for dinner as he performed the duties of being the grill master.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis Smith; a son, Craig (Carol) Smith; a daughter, Cathy (Jay) Hoppe, all of Van Dyne; five grandchildren: Karie (Dave) Tackett, Michael (Amanda) Smith, Shawn Hoppe, Chad Hoppe, and Troy Hoppe; and five great-grandchildren: Noah Hoppe, Kaylee Tackett, Ashton Hoppe, Layla Smith, and Benjamin Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Bernice (Herbert) Propson.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, Oshkosh, with Rev. Timothy Greenwald officiating. The visitation will be at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Town of Friendship.
