Sr. Patricia Scanlan, CSA

Fond du Lac - Sister Patricia Scanlan, CSA, formerly known as Sister Malachy, died peacefully May 16, 2018, at St. Francis Home.

Patricia was born in Riverdale, New York, on March 27, 1933, to William Scanlan and Irene Magill Scanlan. She was raised in a family of six, including two boys and four girls.

Patricia entered St. Agnes Convent in 1950 after graduating from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, New York. She made her profession of vows as Sister Malachy in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August 15, 1953.

She received a BS in Education from Marian College of Fond du Lac in 1962. Over the years which followed, Sister Patricia took numerous theology courses and earned an MA in Theology from

Manhattan College, Bronx, New York. She also received a Certificate in Youth Ministry from Douglaston Seminary in Long Island, New York.

Sister Patricia was a teacher for 36 years. Having taught most grade levels in the elementary schools

served by the congregation in Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, New York, and Kansas, she also participated in religious education programs in the parishes wherever she lived. At St. Mary's Springs, Fond du Lac,

Wisconsin, and at Marian High, Hays, Kansas, Sister Patricia was a religion teacher as well as a physical education instructor and coach.

She worked in the Youth and Aged Ministry Office at Sacred Heart Parish, Yonkers, New York. As a member of LAMP Catholic Ministries of New York, Sister Patricia was assigned to St. Joseph Parish, Yonkers, New York, where she did Parish Evangelization and was Pastoral Associate. Service in LAMP was energizing and thoroughly engaging for her.

Sister Patricia Scanlan was preceded in death by her parents William Scanlan and Irene Magill Scanlan; her brothers William (Bill) Scanlan and John (Jack) Scanlan; and her sisters Joan Dugandzic and Anne Lynch.

She is survived by her sister Gerry Lou O'Connor, her nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.

Visitation for Sister Patricia Scanlan will take place May 25, 2018, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. A prayer service will be held on May 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Nazareth Center Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on May 25, 2018, in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, at 2:00 p.m. Father Ken Smits, Capuchin, will be the presider. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery.
