Alma Arvilla Walter

Ottawa, ON, CA - Alma Arvilla Walter (nee Van de Berg) died peacefully in her sleep on December 28. Alma was born in in Waupun, Wisconsin to Henry and Kate Van de Berg. She was predeceased by her sister Arvilla and brothers Ted and Red of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. After graduating from Fond du Lac Senior High School and living throughout the Midwest, Alma and Lyle Sr. (d. 2010), along with sons Mike (d. 2006) and Tim, joined son Lyle Jr. and settled in Ottawa in 1970. In addition to Lyle Jr. and Tim, Alma is survived by her granddaughter Corrina (Jeff Clement) and adored great-grandchildren Jeffrey Walter and Linnae Alma. Before retiring, Alma worked at the Gloucester and Blossom Park branches of the public library system where she was responsible for the Story Time and craft programs, bringing her love of reading and art to many neighborhood children. In her later years, Alma became a prolific painter focusing on local scenery, especially barns, across the region. Alma and Lyle Sr. were frequent patrons of the Chateau Laurier, the Continental, Villa Lucia and the German Club, where they dined and danced with friends and family throughout the years. Known to her family as Ma, Grams and Great-Grandma, she had a warm heart, fabulous style, cheeky sense of humor and spread joy wherever she went through her kindness and patience. These characteristics will live on in those she leaves behind. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Longfields Manor for their care and support.
