Elaine Freed Obituary
Freed, Elaine Marian (Marsh)

Elaine left this world peacefully on February 15, 2013, while a resident at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sumter S.C., at the age of 91. She was born on October 23, 1921, to Solomon "Maxwell" and Agnes (Meidl) Marsh, in Fond du Lac WI.

Elaine graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School, class of 1939. Through her lifetime, while raising six children, she enjoyed hobbies including sewing, crocheting and knitting. She loved music, dance, ice skating, swimming and was a big fan of classic films.

Upon retiring from her position as secretary for the Advocap Headstart program in Fond du Lac, WI, Elaine spent many years travelling and camping before making the decision to move to Sumter, S.C. She loved spending time, with her beloved dog, Rusty, on the wooded acres of her home in the country.

Those Elaine leaves behind to cherish her memory are six children including Marcia (friend, Peter) Mylott of Wedgefield S.C.; Douglas Freed, Sumter S.C.; Deborah (Leo) Puddy, Appleton WI; Mark (Julea) Freed, Alan (Pamela) Freed and Jacqueline (Bruce) Bergman, all of Fond du Lac WI. Also surviving is her former spouse and father of her children, Henry H. "Bud" Freed of Mt. Calvary (Calvary Station) WI.

Grandchildren surviving include Troy Ziegler, Wedgefield S.C.; Traci (Peter) Mrsich, New Port Richey FL; Alicia Zaludova, Pittsfield MA; Sara (Adam) Sears, Lacey Freed, Mariah Freed and Orrin Bergman, all of Fond du Lac WI; and Michele Bergman, Madison WI; and Claire Bergman, Mankato MN.

Elaine is further survived by her sister, Mae Steed of Hot Springs National Park, AR; great-grandchildren, Scott Cermak and Miranda Mrsich, of New Port Richey FL; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Harry (Doc) and Mary Freed; her brother, Robert Marsh; sister-in-law, Joyce Marsh; brother-in-law, Tom Steed; and sister-in-law, Ramona Freed.

The family wishes to thank Peter Fedukowski who often made the trip from Myrtle Beach to Sumter, to visit with Elaine and play piano for the residents. His dedication to Elaine and support of her family will never be forgotten.

Special thanks to Denise Spivey, a kind, compassionate friend who ministered to Elaine, while a resident of the nursing home. Elaine was a person of strong faith and love of the Lord.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to the staff of Sumter Health & Rehabilitation Center and especially to Sheila Brooks MSW of Ahava Hospice whose motto is "Do All Things with Great Love".

The Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home in Sumter, S.C., is serving the family. Inurnment will take place at Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac WI, at which time a private family service will be held.
